Emergency Preparedness Planning/Distance Communication with Students

What do I need to consider to ensure continuity, if the college is closed?

  • Determine which online platform you want to use (MyHCC, Novus)
  • Access and participate in the necessary training for your chosen online platform
  • Consult with others to assist in course translation beforehand - anticipate having to use an online form of delivery
  • Review your course content and determine what can and needs to be translated for online delivery
  • Determine what technology you will need to have in place
  • Create a list of contact numbers and email for technical assistance
  • Develop a clear plan for your students outlining how to access materials online
  • Provide a time line for working through course material
  • Rework assignments and class activities to work online
  • Develop contingency plans to deal with make-up assignments
  • Share your contingency plans with your dean, including plans to continue communication, assignments, and/or classes in case of a closure and plans for coverage should you get the flu. Coverage could include continuing class in an online format or having substitutes or some other creative possibility
