The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) mandates, under Title IX of the Education Amendment of 1972, that federally funded education institutions develop and implement education and training programs for students, faculty, and staff. Among its compliance requirements, OCR encourages institutions to provide specific training to “Responsible Employees”, those who are likely to be the first to receive complaints of sex discrimination from students. “Responsible Employees” are employees who have the authority to take action to redress sexual violence, a duty of reporting incidents of sexual violence by students to the Title IX Coordinator, and one whom a student could reasonably believe has this authority or duty.

TRAINING OBJECTIVE: The training will provide attendees with guidance and instruction on recognizing and appropriately responding to initial allegations and complaints of sex discrimination, including fair and objective communication that does not discourage victims from reporting. You will understand the necessity of providing care and resources for individuals affected by dating and domestic violence on your campus.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: “Responsible Employees” – Deans of Academic Affairs, Deans of Academic Services, Managers of Student Services, SGA Advisors, Counselors, Public Safety Officers and Security, Athletic Directors, Team Coaches, and Resident Assistants.
